That’s the price tag for the cheap daily goods, all made in China (or other asiatic countries). Without income from industries that use applied technologies, eduation becomes unaffordable. It’s the harsh and inevitable fate of the western culture. The widespread superstition, perpetua mobile belief, esoterism and exo-ufoism simply reflect our future.

@debrainwasher I agree that we are in trouble but I disagree about the word “fate”. Civilizations can have surges and waves in their success. I have noticed that many young people once again are valuing knowledge. If we return to having some manufacturing in the country, this could combine with the wave among the youth to swing thing back in the favor of the society advancing. We don’t need everyone to value science just enough.

knowledgemonger, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but history clearly contradicts to your assumtion of (major) surges and waves. Rise and fall of civilisations follow in the average a gaussian bell curve (note the exp-term there). Currently, we do, what already the ancient Egytian, Persian, Greek and Roman culture did: We get rid of technlogy science and industry. The less industry we have, the less expensive education is required. The lucky winners are the asian people.
